MISCANTHUS GIGANTEUS, Quantity of 10-1/2 gallon size, bare root to semi bare root divisions (size is comparable to a small handful of root). Expect growth of 6-8' of height, 1' of width, though plants will look sparce the first year. Recommended spacing when planting is 1.5 - 2' apart.
This ia an unpatented variety of Miscanthus x Giganteus. also spelled gigantus at times, and can be refereed to Giant Silver Grass, or Miscanthus Floridus.

Hardy zones 4-9. This is one of the tallest ornamental grasses, growing 12-14' mature. Lush green leaves cascade down the stems, which are similar in appearance to bamboo. Stiff, erect stems show of silvery awns of plume in autumn. Grass stands well through the winter and works well for privacy screening, hedges and specimen plants.

Popular with outdoorsmen for cover crops, wildlife habitat and bedding. Works well for farming applications as well, useful as animal bedding and lasts longer than straw.

Easy to grow and grows fast, usually 6' tall by early summer. Best planted in full sun, though it will grow in part shade, height may be less than 14". Will grow in most soils, though fertile, moist, well draining are best. This grass does not like sites that stay continually wet. It does however need good moisture to establish and for full growth. It is somewhat drought resistant once established.

This grass is being used as a bio fuel crop. Homeowners are also using it to produce grass pellets for burning in stoves, similar to wood pellet stoves. May be available in large quantities. All existing vegetation should be moved before planting and week control is necessary as it establishes. This is a warm season grass and usually does not start top growth until temps are in the mid 60's. We have noticed not all plants sprout at the same time the first year out. Patience is required to see a uniform planting.
